The South African Social Security Agency has issued a warning that social grant payments to thousands of KwaZulu-Natal grant recipients will end if they do not complete essential verification work. The agency reports that 12,000 beneficiaries in the province face immediate danger because their personal records remain unverified.
SASSA has advised people who face grant delays to resolve their issues immediately to receive their benefits without any breaks in service.

The agency conducts its regular beneficiary checks to determine which recipients still meet the current eligibility requirements. During these checks SASSA found that thousands of KwaZulu-Natal recipients hold personal records that contain outdated information or missing details.
The agency needs this information because it requires proof of ongoing beneficiary eligibility to provide financial assistance. Unverified identification details will lead to suspension or permanent termination of their grants.
SASSA uses the review process to maintain the security of social grant programs while stopping fraudulent activities and preventing incorrect financial distributions.

The verification process mainly affects beneficiaries whose circumstances may have changed since their initial grant application. This includes people who experience income employment and housing situation changes.
SASSA contacts individuals through SMS and official channels which makes it necessary for them to visit their nearest office.
