The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially confirmed the full social grant payment schedule for the 2026/2027 financial year. The announcement provides monthly grant payment dates which South African beneficiaries can use to estimate their payment schedule. Social grants play a crucial role in supporting vulnerable households across the country. Families need these payments to pay for essential expenses which include food and transportation and healthcare and utility expenses. Through its early schedule release, SASSA provides beneficiaries with a tool which they can use to better manage their annual financial needs. The confirmed calendar also helps reduce confusion and misinformation which often circulates online regarding payment dates and grant changes.
How The Monthly Payment System Works
SASSA distributes monthly grants through a payment system which executes payments at different times throughout each month. The payment system operates effectively because it prevents excessive crowds from gathering at banks and ATMs and retail collection points.
The payment system begins with Older Persons Grants before it proceeds to Disability Grants and finally to Children’s Grants which include the Child Support Grant and Foster Child Grant. The same sequence operates every month throughout the year. The payment calendar establishes a rule which prohibits grant payments from occurring on weekends and public holidays. If a payment date falls on a non-working day, it is usually moved to the next available business day.
Payment Dates For The 2026/2027 Financial Year
The 2026/2027 financial year will start its payment schedule in April 2026 and finish in March 2027. The Older Persons grants will be paid on 2 April and Disability grants will be paid on 7 April and Children’s grants will be paid on 8 April. The same pattern will repeat in the following months. The Older Persons grants will start on 5 May in May 2026 and the Disability grants will start on 6 May and the Children’s grants will start on 7 May.
The structured payment system will continue to operate until the financial year endswhich lets beneficiaries track their fund release times precisely.
Grant Amount Adjustments
The national budget changes will lead to social grant increases which will start on April 2026. The Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, and Care Dependency Grant will increase to approximately R2,400 per month. The War Veterans Grant will increase more than the Child Support Grant and Grant-in-Aid which will receive smaller increases. The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant will stay at its current monthly rate of R370 until further notice.
Advice For Grant Beneficiaries
SASSA has reminded beneficiaries that they do not need to withdraw their money on the exact payment day. The money will remain with the beneficiary until they require it after deposit into their bank account or SASSA card. The system decreases waiting times at payment locations while creating a more secure process for all participants. Beneficiaries must remain informed through official SASSA announcements because unverified social media information should not be trusted. The complete payment schedule enables recipients to organize their financial planning for the entire 2026/2027 financial year.
